My Amazing Granpa 

Background: I came out to my parents 4 years ago. My younger brother came out two weeks ago. We have a great uncle who is also gay. My great grandpa is 90 years old, and a lifelong Christian. My parents went to visit him this Christmas, and here was their conversation…

Grandpa: So, I switched back to the Church Grandma and I had gone to for 35 years.

My Dad: Why?

Grandpa: Pastor Bob told your mother and uncle (the gay one) that he was working on getting all of the gays out of his church.

My Mom: WHAT?!

Grandpa: Well, we have 20-something family members in this area and 3 of them are gay. I love them all. It’s completely ludicrous that a pastor would say or do such a thing. So, I had him over for coffee the other day and laid into him. I told him that when he makes statements like that, he is attacking my family. I also told him it was incredibly narrow-minded to believe that being gay prevented someone from getting into heaven. I will not be going back.

My parents: …
