Gay Hate Grim Reaper
(Video description: a street activism video of a person dressed in a Grim Reaper costume in various urban locations, featuring the surprised reactions of people all set to typical “creepy” piano music. During the latter part of the video we see the Grim Reaper handing out small business cards that say ‘you are the victim of a hate crime’, followed by a statistic related to hate crimes against gays and lesbians [hate crime statistics provided by the FBI]. At the end of the video is the tagline ‘hate is scary’.)
While the details are not entirely clear, apparently a representative from the “Dan Savage Welcoming Committee” rushed the stage to glitter bomb the celebrity sex columnist along with the statement “Dan Savage is a transphobe!” As they turned tail, they added, “Glitterbomb courtesy of the Dan Savage Welcoming Committee,” and just before they got out the door, “He’s a racist and misogynist and a rape-apologist, too!” The operative then fled the scene.
3:40 of this video. Have I Got News For You - a BBC comedy panel show, with guest Sir Ian McKellen.
"In 2003, during an appearance on Have I Got News For You, McKellen claimed that when he visited Michael Howard, then Environment Secretary (responsible for local government), in 1988 to lobby against Section 28, Howard refused to change his position but did ask him to leave an autograph for his children. McKellen agreed, but wrote "Fuck off, I’m gay."”
