Yeah, I was getting videos sent to me on my Twitter from “shippers” and it was all “Myka and HG, Myka and HG.’ I was like this “shipper” thing, I thought it was some kind of lesbian group that was also part of the Navy… because it had to do with ships? Finally someone was like, “No you idiot, it’s ‘relationships’.” And I was like, “Of course, I knew all along.

The femslash is very subtle, and this can well be read as a friendship fic.

How can I participate in the Genderqueer Fandom Fest?

inksplotched:

  1. do I have to be genderqueer/non-binary to participate? no! It is a space for genderqueer and non-binary individuals to see fanworks about characters like them, but binary and cis creators are also welcome, as long as you respect the spirit of the fest.
  2. what does genderqueer/non-binary mean, anyways? genderqueer and non-binary individuals are people who are neither men nor women. The terms encompass a vast range of gender identities which simply do not fit the gender binary (hence, non-binary). Read more.
  3. what is the Genderqueer Fandom Festgqff is a prompt/fill fest hosted on Livejournal which seeks to increase representation of genderqueer and non-binary identities in fanfiction and fanart. It is pan-fandom and rather casual, with no set end date. This is our second year!
  4. where do I start? just jump in! You can leave prompts (there are formatting guidelines) or fill prompts! If you are unsure about your depiction of gq/n-b characters—especially as a binary/cis creator—read other fills to get an idea if you’re being appropriate, and feel free to shoot me an ask with questions. Fills can be about the experience of beng gq/n-b, but they don’t have to be; they can be about anything, as long as the main character is gq/n-b.
  5. what do I get for participating? the satisfaction of knowing you have contributed to the representation of a sorely under-represented group. (Also, we’re working on a mini-exchange for the fest where fillers can add priority to prompts of their choosing, bear with us.)
  6. how can I participate as a non-creator? leave prompts! And read/comment fills, which will be indexed here! And signal boost this/other posts! And track the tag #gqff for updates!
  7. how can I participate even more? shoot me an ask if you have contributions, I’d always love to get help/suggestions on expanding and enhancing GQFF!

Imagine your OTP beating the shit out of you because they don’t like how you fetishize homosexuality.

crumplesnacks:

“IT’S CANON!” the mindless throng cries.

“No it isn’t!” I retort, desperation creeping into my voice. “It’s queerbaiting! It’s bad writing combined with homophobia!”

“BUT MOFFAT! PERFECT! SO GAY!”

“No!” I scream over the crowd. “Steven Moffat is an incredibly flawed writer! Look how flimsy his Doctor Who plots are! Look at the lack of a coherent theme or narrative! Look how little depth or variety his female characters have!”

“STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS!” they screech in return.

He’s won. Steven Moffat has won. He’s acquired a completely uncritical fanbase who can’t see when they’re being toyed with and played for fools. I let out a broken sob and collapse in despair. As I fall to the ground, the crowd freezes momentarily before they all shout in tearful chorus:

“REICHENBACH FEELS!!”
